COVID-19 UPDATE, June 22, 2020

We're shipping out of our new warehouse! We’re very pleased with the way that Publishers Storage and Shipping is prioritizing the safety of their employees and customers by checking temperatures during entry, maintaining a safe distance in work areas, wearing masks, implementing frequent cleaning of work spaces, and allowing employees who can work from home to do so.

The last of our inventory is in transit to our fulfillment center and we plan for all outstanding orders to be shipped this week!

Please be advised that orders are still delayed. Packages are being shipped via UPS and then handed to USPS for local delivery, and we have seen tracking information stall during this process. While we cannot confirm the exact location of your package while it is in-transit, we will do whatever we can to get you your order as soon as possible.

International orders: USPS has implemented air-to-sea diversion boats for delivery for many countries due to Covid-19 transportation restrictions causing increase delivery times. Additional resources can be found here.

Orders are being split to ensure that books are being sent as quickly as possible. All preorders will ship when they become available.

We may have multiple coupons available at any one time. Our site does not support stacked coupons. However, we will honor different coupons that are active for different books.

We are now able to offer you the option of combining multiple coupons on an order! There might still be some kinks, so if you have any issues please reach out to [email protected] We will honor all coupons within their time of active use.


We're eager to get our books in your hands as soon as possible. When purchasing a Pre-Order book which does not currently have Early Access material available, you will be charged as follows according to your payment method of choice:

(1) PayPal. When paying with PayPal, you will be charged at the time of purchase. PayPal only allows us to charge you immediately upon purchase.

(2) Credit Card. When paying with a credit card, we will charge your card once a book has been officially released or when Early Access material becomes available for that book; whichever is sooner.

Pre-orders with early access materials will receive a PDF containing those completed chapters as soon as it becomes available. When the completed text becomes available it will automatically be uploaded into your customer account at You will receive an email notification with links to download the texts, or you can access them directly in your user profile at

Please note that if you have placed an order with both pre-order titles and frontlist titles in it, your pre-order will not ship until your book becomes available. All other books in the order will ship out as soon as possible.


What types of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) and PayPal. If you would like to pay by check or money order, please contact us to verify the total cost of your purchase, including shipping and tax (if applicable).

Do you charge sales tax?

We charge 7.5 percent sales tax on orders that ship to addresses within California, and 8.5 percent on orders that ship to addresses within San Francisco. We do not charge tax on digital items (ebooks) or international orders.

My payment was declined. Why?

Sorry for the inconvenience! Any large orders will be automatically declined due to our fraud prevention system, but we can manually process the order for you. To have your order processed manually, please email [email protected].

If you are an international customer and you are using a Revolut or Transferwise card, those forms of payment are not compatible with our merchant services. If you are having issues with PayPal or a declined credit card, please reach out to [email protected] or call (415) 863-9900 to receive assistance.


Which shipping carrier do you use?

Domestic orders ship via UPS Mail Innovations. Learn more about this blended service (UPS and USPS) here:

How long will it take for my order to ship?

We ship most orders within two business days (excluding holidays). Our fulfillment center is enforcing safe COVID-19 practices and isolating inventory for three days after they receive it. These procedures are causing some delays with order processing and yYou can expect your order to be shipped out 3-4 days after it has been placed.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

Once shipped, orders within the U.S. typically take up to 7 business days to be delivered. International orders typically take 14 to -21 business days to be delivered. Please reach out to [email protected] with specific questions about your order.

How much do you charge for shipping?

You pay for shipping what we pay for shipping—no more. We don't charge any sort of handling fee.

Please note: Several of our titles, including The TCP/IP Guide and The Linux Programming Interface, are very heavy and must be shipped at a two-book rate. As a general rule, if a book is over 1000 pages long, it will ship at the two-book rate.

How will I know if my order has been processed?

Once your order has been shipped, you will receive a confirmation via email. Please allow 24 hours for your tracking information to become live. If you have additional questions, please email [email protected]

Returns and Exchanges

We stand behind everything that we publish. If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason or if it is defective, please email [email protected] for a replacement or full refund. Please describe the problem and provide proof of purchase. Returns to the office must be sent at your expense and must be in salable condition to qualify for a full refund. Defective CDs/DVDs

If the CD or DVD included with your No Starch Press book is defective, we'll be happy to ship you a replacement. Please email proof of purchase and your mailing address to [email protected] and we'll send you a new disc.

How can I share errata or other suggested changes with you?

We have very high editorial standards and we do the best that we can to make our books as great as possible, but we're not perfect.
