BOOK DELAYS

Why have the publication dates of certain titles been pushed back?

Supply chain problems have continued to escalate this year, affecting almost every aspect of book production, storage, and delivery – mostly as a result of COVID-related bottlenecks. For that reason, some of our Fall 2021 releases have been pushed back weeks or even months as we wait out port congestion, the lack of shipping containers, trucking delays, and staffing shortages at distribution or fulfillment centers.

But please trust that we're doing our absolute best to get your No Starch Press orders to you as soon as possible. We'll let you know when delayed titles are going to be available via real-time Twitter updates, or in an email if you’ve pre-ordered the book.

A big benefit of ordering from us directly is that most pre-orders come with digital Early Access chapters delivered directly to your nostarch.com account as soon as they’re available (no matter where the hard copy is in the supply chain).

Is the COVID-19 crisis still affecting shipping and delivery times?

Domestic shipping (within the United States) is typically taking no longer than the standard 5 – 7 days via UPS Ground. This could change during the holiday season, so we’ll be sure to keep you regularly updated if there are any anticipated delays.

However, international shipping is currently experiencing delays due to limited airline route availability, reduced staffing, and COVID-19 restrictions. If you need specific information about your international order, email us at [email protected].

What about this year’s holiday shopping season? Expect delays?

In a word: yes. We recommend placing your orders well in advance of the December holidays. But don't forget that ebooks are available for download in your nostarch.com account immediately!

 

RETURNS

If I’m not satisfied with an order, can I make a return?

We stand behind what we publish. Period. Full stop. If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, you can return it for a refund or exchange. To make a return, email us at [email protected] to describe the problem and provide proof of purchase. Then, ship the item (in the same condition you received it) at your expense to:

PRE-ORDERS, EARLY ACCESS & EBOOKS

If I pre-order a book, when do I get charged?

When purchasing a print book as a PREORDER, you'll be charged according to your payment method of choice as follows:

(1) PayPal. When pre-ordering a book using PayPal, you will be charged at the time of purchase. PayPal only allows us to charge you immediately upon checkout.

(2) Credit Card. When pre-ordering a book with a credit card, we will only charge your card once the book has been officially released, or when the digital Early Access material becomes available and is uploaded to your nostarch.com account (whichever is sooner).

NOTE: If you pre-order a title that already has Early Access chapters available, your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase.

What are Early Access files, and how do I get them?

We're eager to get our titles in your hands as soon as we can. That’s why when you pre-order most books on our website, you don’t have to wait for the print edition to start reading! When a pre-order comes with “Early Access,” you receive a PDF containing completed chapters as soon as they’re available. Check out the Table of Contents on the book’s landing page to see what’s ready for you to read immediately – the EA material will be marked by bold red font.

As more chapters of the ebook become available, we’ll load them into your customer account at nostarch.com, and send you an email notification with a download link. Or, you can access them directly by logging in under your user profile (https://nostarch.com/user).
 

PAYMENTS

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) and PayPal.

Do you charge sales tax?

We charge a 7.5% sales tax on orders that ship to addresses within California, and 8.5% on orders that ship to addresses within San Francisco. For all other online purchases, we charge the sales tax rate of the destination state where the order’s being shipped. We do not charge tax on digital items (ebooks) or international orders.

My payment was declined. Why?

First of all, sorry for the inconvenience! Keep in mind that any particularly large orders will be automatically declined due to our fraud prevention system – but we are happy to manually process the order for you. Simply email us at [email protected].

SHIPPING

Which shipping carrier do you use?

Domestic orders ship via UPS Mail Innovations. Learn more about this blended service (UPS and USPS) here: https://www.upsmailinnovations.com/.

How long will it take for my order to ship?

We ship most orders within 2 business days (excluding holidays).

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

Once shipped, orders within the U.S. typically take the standard 5 to 7 business days to be delivered. International orders typically take 14 to 21 business days to be delivered.

How much do you charge for shipping?

You pay for shipping what we pay for shipping, no more – we don't charge any sort of “handling” fee. Our costs are as follows:

*Please note: Several of our titles, including The TCP/IP Guide and The Linux Programming Interface, are very heavy and must be shipped at a two-book rate. As a general rule, if a book is over 1,000 pages long, it will ship at the two-book rate.

How will I know if my order has been processed?

Once your order has been shipped, you will receive a confirmation via email. Please allow 24 hours for your tracking information to become live. If you have additional questions, please email [email protected].
 

CORRECTIONS

If I find an error in a book, how can I share that with you?

We have very high editorial standards, and we do the best that we can to make our books as accurate and up-to-date as possible. But we're not perfect. If you encounter an error in one of (whether it’s already published or in Early Access form), please email [email protected] and our editors will review/act on your comments.
