Sacha Chua (the charming and talented author of the forthcoming Wicked Cool Emacs) put together a fun slideshow: The Gen Y Guide to Web 2.0 at Work. It doesn’t have anything to do with Emacs, but I think you’ll like it anyway.

Makes me want a DS!

Check out this fun excerpt from Conrad Barski’s upcoming Lisp of Lisp, “Functional Programming is Beautiful“!

Land of Lisp

Loverly art! I can’t wait to read the whole thing.

Here’s a teaser for our forthcoming how-to video, “Fold your own papercraft Mac!”

Can’t wait for the final edit? Try it yourself with the directions here.

Check out these frequency clouds of No Starch books–The Book of Wireless; Hacking, The Art of Exploitation; and (of course) Security Data Visualization. I think I prefer a summary written by humans, but nonetheless a useful peek into the contents of a text. Kudos to Daniel Steinbock, the creator of this tool, for making it public and free of charge.

McSweeney’s–Dave Eggers’s quirky publishing house based here in San Francisco–is raising money to cover the 100K losses stemming from a distributor bankruptcy. Check out their Ebay auctions and cheap books. How about a customized congratulations from Miranda July (with the current asking price of $511):

MIRANDA JULY CONGRATULATES YOU OR A FRIEND

Quirky, indeed. They say more items from Michael Chabon, Art Spiegelman, and David Foster Wallace are on their way to the auction block…

These drastic measures are further fallout from the Advanced Marketing Services/Publishers Group West bankruptcy back in December 2006. As McSweeney’s notes, it’s tough times for all publishers hit by the loss.

If you happen to be in San Francisco, check out McSweeney’s charming Pirate Store at 826 Valencia, and the tutoring center of the same name.
